Dave Hursthouse running the GNR again for the RNLI

davernliHe may have said ‘never again’ after last year’s Great North Run, but Dave Hursthouse will be running the GNR once again! So why is he putting himself through it again? Well as he says himself, “if the RNLI crew members volunteer to go out in all weather conditions to save lives at sea, then me volunteering to run 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South shields was a small sacrifice in comparison to help fund them!”

The RNLI, whose volunteer lifeboat crews provide 24 hour search and rescue across the UK’s shores, is a very personal charity for Dave, as he had to call on the RNLI for help when he had a sailing accident two years ago.

Dave keeps a blog about his training which you can read here, or to visit his JustGiving page click here.

Good Luck Dave!

Claire Harrison running the Loch Ness Marathon

Claire has already done the London Marathon this year but she didn’t want to stop there…

So she signed up for the Loch Ness Marathon to raise money for the RNLI.

Claire is running in memory of her cousin Brian Barkley who worked on the Miller Oil Platform and died on the 1st April 2009 in the helicopter crash coming back from the platform.

She says “Loch Ness is a hilly marathon and definitely will be a more challenging run and the RNLI were a key part in the search and rescue after the crash that I thought it would be a fitting tribute to Brian to run in his name and raise money for a charity that helped to bring him home.”

James Chandler

James is running for RNLI, which is “made up entirely of volunteers who risk their own wellbeing every single day to rescue those who are in danger at sea. What’s more, they rely solely on donations from the likes of you and me.”

Apparently, James is “the quickest thing to come out of Huntingdon since Dick Turpin at a gallop”.
