Yes - this moment will be yours too!
This is Martin finishing the Bristol Half Marathon a couple of years ago. He’s now gearing up for the full 26.2 miles in London on 26th April, to raise money for Children’s Hospices UK.
He writes some really moving words about them on his Justgiving page, in a great personal message.
Good luck Martin!
Dan Worth

Dan sent us a great fundraising tip last month and then got in touch again through Twitter to ask if we’d interview him too.
We’re very happy to present a little bit more about Dan’s marathon challenge - we like his optimism and down to earth approach.
What inspired you to run the marathon?
I think it’s the epicness of the challenge, coupled with the slight insanity of agreeing to try and run 26.2 miles. Plus the idea of pounding the streets of London alongside 35,000 others, with thousands of people cheering you on, is something that is too unique an experience to pass by.
Are you running for anyone in particular?
The NSPCC! I am going to raise £1,800, and I am about a 1/3 of the way there at the moment.
Can you tell us more about your charity?
The NSPCC’s purpose is to end cruelty to children and their vision is of a society where all children are loved, valued and able to fulfill their potential. They rely on voluntary donations to deliver over 180 services to benefit children and young people across the UK and Channel Islands, including running Childline – a recent addition to their work - answering over 30,000 calls a year. Important stuff I think you’ll agree.
How’s your training going?
Very well thanks! I am training with my housemate and we are both really enjoying discovering the many highways and byways of north London to up our mileage, which now takes us all the way to, and around, Hampstead Heath.
I recently did a half-marathon in Watford, in a time of 1:49.15, which puts me nicely schedule for a target time of 3hr 30m on the big day, and we both did 14.5 miles recently and felt okay at the end. Tired, but okay. And, touch wood, no major injuries or aches so far!
What are you looking forward to about the race?
The crowds cheering you on - I’ve spoken to a number of people who have done the marathon before, who told me you have to put your name on your top as having people cheer you on by name for 26.2 miles is a massive adrenaline rush.
Also getting a medal and a giant piece of silver tinfoil at the end will be a nice reward. And being on TV.
Is there anything you’re not looking forward to?
Not having an incentive to keep running after the marathon and the risk that it could be unseasonably hot on the big day and affect people adversely. Cool, dry and fresh please oh weather-god of the sky.
Have you got any good fund raising tips to pass on?
I do indeed – here: http://londonmarathon.justgiving.com/2009/02/18/dan-worth-running-for-nspcc/
Plus, I think personalising your emails to friends / families is important, as you can target them specifically, rather than just sending a mass email. Getting family members to ask their friends and work colleagues has helped me bring in some good extra money too.
Where can people sponsor you?

If I pass £1,800 before the big day, I will run dressed a pirate. If I don’t, I won’t. So if you want to know that on the day itself there’s someone dressed as a pirate running around London, why not donate a few pieces of eight?
Katie Price

Here’s a marathon runner you might have heard of.
Katie Price is running this year’s London marathon, along with her husband Peter Andre and a small team of fellow runners, to raise money for the charities Vision and NSPCC. Read what Katie has to say about the cause on her Justgiving page.
Vision helps blind, visually impaired and dyslexic children like her son Harvey, so it’s a cause that’s very close to her heart. The NSPCC is this country’s leading child protection charity.
She knows the race is going to be a huge challenge and she’s asking for all the help her fans can give. Here’s what she has to say on her personal website.
